I grew up in rural Oregon, to a family of hard-working people: loggers, cooks, mechanics, office workers, construction workers, and truck drivers. Some of my most vivid childhood memories are walking the deep tracks in hard clay dirt on my Dad's logging site or sitting up in the high cab of my grandfather's 18-wheeler. Working people built this state and it has gotten increasingly hard for young people to build a stable life in our communities. Just as my public-school teacher daughter juggles work she loves with the high cost of daycare; and my warehouse worker son saves to make his condo payments, I'm motivated to make things better for the people who are working hard for all of us.
I was sworn into office at the height of the pandemic in January 2021 to represent Ward 3 and all of Springfield. It was a challenging time and yet, I was ready—it was clear we needed to focus on shoring up our communities during the pandemic, and we needed to be focused on growth and recovery. My commitment has been increasing housing at all price points, directing one-time recovery funds with common sense stewardship, building toward financial stability, and making necessary improvements to our public and life safety services and structure. Add to these huge challenges and opportunities, the need to get strategic about infrastructure improvements in Springfield, and I can assure you, I hit the ground running and have been unwavering in working to make sure we are dialed in on the needs of all Springfielders.
This work has also led me to advocate for Springfield in Salem--lobbying our representatives, building relationships, and making sure that our unique Springfield needs are NOT left out of the state conversation.
I also work for Developmental Disabilities Services in Lane County--my work includes strategic planning, working to make services more accessible, and guiding a team of stellar staff. My spouse, Teri, and I share 4 adult children and are proud Meemaws to our two grandchildren: 9 year-old Calvin and 5 year-old Penny. When not working, you can find us in our Springfield garden or wandering parks and trails!
Where We Are Headed
I've worked to help update city code, planning fees structure, and other regulations to make it easier to build ADUs (Auxiliary Dwelling Units), as well as "missing middle" housing like townhomes and cottage clusters. I've fought hard to support emerging businesses and bring more childcare options to Springfield. I've been a loud voice for our firefighters, public safety officers, teachers, and skilled workers. I want living wage jobs, affordable housing, thriving local businesses, and educational opportunities for people at every age and stage of life. In short, I want a thriving community where neighbors are safe and everyone can afford to live and build a future.
My leadership as Chair and Vice-Chair on the Springfield Economic Development Agency has resulted in steady progress on the redevelopment of the Glenwood Waterfront district and the continued focus on downtown development and starting to prioritize other areas of Springfield for improving streets, sidewalks, and making it easier and welcoming to build and grow. I've lobbied our state and federal representatives to fight for needed improvements in Springfield--from the 42nd Street Levee to needed dollars for transportation improvements.
I believe it is equally important to make sure we have the infrastructure--roads, transportation, utility access, and bike and walking options, to encourage and support that needed growth. This also means we need to invest in the women and men who do the hard work to keep us safe: our Firefighters and Emergency Responders, Public Safety, and to also support our community partners to ensure that we are building for a sustainable future. We may be a scrappy community of working folks, and we are also growing with schools, parks, businesses, and resources we can be proud of.
Sending me to the state legislature means you can be assured of a voice that understands the needs of Springfielders and knows how to get real things done with people from all walks of life!

I will be on the ballot, running to represent House District 7 in the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, and I will need your support and your vote to make sure I continue to keep the needs of everyday Springfield neighbors at the table. We know what we need and I know how to make things happen for the working people of Springfield.
